Do you have a Harley? Do you want to explore some nice roads? Do you want to share some of your favorite routes with other Harley riders? Do you want to take us for a test ride? Want to find a group that matches your ride objectives? Contact one of the officers to find out more about our riding club. Are you a lady rider, not sure about riding with a group of men – contact our LOH officer for a woman’s view.
Or, stop by Harley-Davidson of Essex, our sponsoring dealership, on the first Saturday of the month to meet some of the members and find out about our rides and events. It is located approximately 1/2 mile east of the Garden State Parkway off exit 148 on Bloomfield Avenue.
To be a member of Essex County HOG, you must first be a member of the national Harley Owners Group. Click on this LINK to sign up.
Once you get your national membership number, download the membership form (PDF), fill it out and bring it to a ride or chapter meeting. Membership renewals come due each year at the end of MARCH. If you have any questions, e-mail our Director or Assistant Director.
Both the Harley Owners Group and the Essex County Chapter have Associate (non-rider) Memberships available that can participate in all HOG activities.
New Members - The Officers and Road Captains have a responsibility to Harley-Davidson, our sponsoring dealer and the members of our chapter to do all that is in our power to insure the safety of our members. You, as a chapter member and a new rider, have an equal responsibility. For this reason, we must insist that you develop a familiarity with your motorcycle. Loss of control of a motorcycle, in a group ride situation, can jeopardize the safety of other chapter members.
As a new member, you must
have a valid Motorcycle Drivers License
be able to safely operate your motorcycle and be capable of keeping up with the flow of traffic in order to participate in chapter sanctioned group rides
contact the Head Road Captain to attend a “new member ride”
read and understand the material in the Ride Guide
On your first group ride, you and other first time group riders will be assigned to ride behind the group, just in front of the Tail Gunner Road Captain. You are urged to contact the Safety Officer about Rider’s Education courses for both new and experienced riders. Many of our members, and all of our Road Captains, have completed at least one Experienced Rider Course.
Members are encouraged to wear Chapter Colors and name tags. Chapter Colors can be purchased at most meetings from our Chapter Membership Officer. Name Tags can be ordered from the Chapter Membership Officer at meetings or by mail. Name Tags are $8.00 and can list a first name, first and last name or “road name”. We must have a minimum order of 12 tags to place an order with H.O.G. E-mail the Chapter Membership Officer to order your name tag or contact him at a meeting or ride.
