OCTOBER

OCT 1  Chapter Meeting

OCT 2  Cold Spring, NY 9AM
Ride Leader: Mike Ferrante

OCT 9  Twin Lakes, NY  9AM
Ride Leader: Anthony Wartel

Twin Lakes Road/Cedar Rapids Inn-  Ever since the Hawks Nest Diner burned itself into the Delaware River, we've found that The Cedar Rapids Inn further North on Rt. 97 works just fine.  Getting there however is the best part.  Once we bring ourselves over the Milford Bridge by way of some nice country roads, we'll be riding on Rt. 6 to Twin Lakes Road.  The Roebling Bridge will get us back into NY State from Pa. and then there's a short run on Rt. 97 to Cedar Rapids.  The ride back will be a bit quicker, but just as picture perfect as the way there.

OCT 16 *RIDE FOR DENNIS CHARITY FALL FOLIAGE & COVERED BRIDGE RUN, PA 9AM
Ride Leader: Anthony Wartel & John Mottola

Join us for this fall foliage charity run to help create an Essex County HOG educational fund ~ Donation $10 which includes a commemorative pin and certificate. Additional pins $10. We head out on Route 78 and take that right out to Bucks County, PA - stopping for a butt rub at the truck stop at Exit 7.  From there we’ll be exploring the countryside, admiring the colors and passing through 7 or 8 covered bridges along the way.  As usual, we’ll be finding someplace to have lunch too. It’s a little cooler this time of year, so pay close attention to the weather and dress appropriately. Also, this is a longer than usual day – be prepared for that aspect of the ride as well. This has always been one of our most popular runs and I look forward to seeing everyone there.

OCT 23 Landslide Saloon, NJ  10AM
Ride Leader: Bob Anderson

This is a new club ride. Join us for a fall foliage ride to The Landslide Saloon in Asbury, NJ. No that’s not Asbury Park but Asbury in Hunterdon County. We’ll head West through Mt. Lakes, Ironia and Bartley and then Southwest through Stephensburg and on to Asbury and The Landslide. Coming back we’ll rumble through Dilts Corner, Middle Valley. Milltown, Mendham and back into the Essex County Area. After all this rain we’ve been having, I’m ordering up some perfect weather for the ride.

OCT 30 Eve of All Hallows  10AM
Ride Leader: Don Mitchell

“Quaker Church” and “Pleasant Hill” elicit quaint and … well, … pleasant images; but after we wind our way beyond those nice roads, we’ll find ourselves on the likes of Cemetery Road. Never mind Old Cemetery Road; the map says it’s a thoroughfare, but that’s just an illusion. We’ll have a few chances to gather our wits and before you know it, we’ll be on Shades of Death Road.  Now, this road is haunted, but we all know that the spirits don’t readily show themselves during the hours when we’ll be there.  Nevertheless, watch out. One pre-ride presented evidence in the form of half a dozen turkey vultures which were spotted on the edge of the road around a sweeping bend.  Too busy watching the buzzards scatter to notice the poor dead bloke who had provided their meal.  Another pre-ride was going smoothly until making a sharp 90º turn with cornfields surrounding the narrow road. Around the bend, a huge 18-wheeler headed our way, but not just in his lane. We survived that one so we could make sure we warn you about the Shades of Death.  Beware!
